Due to the hugely popular demand of this private collection tea, we are releasing the Beengholes of Maduro 2006. These are a minimum of 50g (but usually quite a lot more) and are compressed tighter since they were the centre part of the tea cake so it is more likely that you will have to break the leaves and brew a little more carefully.
This is a special limited release of a deep, sweet and spiced 2006 Sheng PuErh to celebrate the birth of my child Aiyana. We see it as fulfilling the tradition of giving out cigars after a child is born because the aroma of this private collection PuErh tea is very reminiscent of rich, sticky Maduro cigar leaves. A celebratory tea from the vault of my private stash of tea.
When we found this 2006 PuErh we immediately fell in love with its complexity - from Chinese herbal apothecaries to raisins and prunes to cedarwood and fermented tobacco. But there was not enough tea and not enough information for us to share to make this a general release. So instead we bought up a nice stash for ourselves.
After the birth of our daughter, we have received so many well wishes and gifts from the Teahead community and we wanted to say thank you. One night, we were sipping this 2006 PuErh and realised that the taste was so rich in deep cigar notes that it seemed fitting to release this tea as our way of upholding the tradition of giving out cigars. So, we have broken into almost all of our cakes to make 50g packs of 2006 Maduro to offer to all of you.
