This beauty is a 2013 Old Tree Raw PuErh from the Bing Dao Region - one of the most prized mountain regions for PuErh in the world. This is also our special release to mark the finale of our #StatesOfSelf game and you have the option to receive a limited edition print featuring the Tea Community contributions. So let's start with the tea. Wow. A semi-aged Sheng made from estimated 100-200 year old tea trees growing in the forests around the Nuo Wu village in Bing Dao.
Bing Dao is one of the most revered mountain village areas, up there with the Lao Banzhang and Gua Feng Zhai famed villages. Bing Dao consists of five villages - Old Bing Dao, Nan Po, Di Kie, Ba Wai and Nuo Wu. This tea comes from Nuo Wu and was picked in Spring 2013.
The texture of this tea is soft, slippery, oily and thick moving to a very brief flirtation with dryness before releasing into a lotus and minty sweet juiciness. The aromatics are redolent with apricot jam, plum pie and poached apples, all mingling together in a bold embrace of antique woods, autumn forests and leather with a generous coating of caramel and brown sugar.
This tea will continue to age gloriously and I would strongly advise investing in an extra cake or two for future years (I doubt that you will be able to control yourself with the freshly opened cake).
The artwork represents many ideas which we explored in the #StatesOfSelf game. The butterfly represents transformation as it rises above the noise to conduct those below on their journey through the crossroads in life by reminding them to make their transition to a more positive State of Self.
