A potent Raw Gushu PuErh in all senses - aroma, taste, texture and effects are all overflowing in this very special tea.
The Resin Temptress is an aromatic explosion. As soon as you rinse those leaves your nose will be filled with a rich and decadent blend of ripe fruits, expensive spices, cream puddings and sticky resins. The taste and texture are similarly mature and luxurious, bringing you on a journey through an Arabic bazaar of flavours with a thick texture and a perfectly structured finish.
If all of this was not enough, the Resin Temptress then creeps up on you with a powerful tea-drunk energy. The effects will vary from person to person but, for me, this is one of the most impactful teas that we have sourced and reminds me of the potency of other more famous mountains like Banzhang. My experience is of an excitable, rushy and altered sensation with a happy and clear focus.
The Resin Temptress is an unusual tea. It comes from the ancestral forest of the Ji family in Jinggu and is the first pluck of the year with a total harvest of just 40kg (we bought it all). This area is well known for producing PuErh and Moonlight White tea but does not have the same 'expensive' reputation as areas around Xishuangbanna or Lincang.
When I first sniffed this tea I was convinced that I wanted to buy it but then I found out the price and I wondered if teaheads would be prepared to purchase a pricey tea from a less famous area. But, I gave into the tea's temptations and it has become some of the most treasured teas in our collection.
This tea has been released 10 months from picking because it exhibits an untamed edginess which we wanted to soften slightly. It is worth stressing that this tea should be treated with your utmost attention. Ensure that you have good soft water (descale your kettle) and that you focus on brewing times and temperature to achieve the perfect balance of decadence, bite and energy.
