You know how fussy we are about our aged White teas! We must have tasted about 50 aged white teas in the last year and in our opinion there are so many aged Whites which have a great fragrance but are weak in the cup.
Sunfire Ripple is a custom blend of two separate batches of 2011 Fuding Shou Mei which we found amongst all of our White tea sampling. We worked on finding a sweet and fruity tea and pairing it with a tea with more depth and body to create our sweet spot for aged Whites.
This tea is the taste of a summer holiday with dried figs, raspberry ripple ice cream, hot beach, dark caramel, rolling tobacco and mountainous herbs like oregano. It has a lot of depth unusual for most Shou Mei which shows the quality of the tea plants and good ageing storage.
This white tea is not part of our Jade Star range of aged White teas because it is purely Shou Mei whereas Jade Star is always a mix of Shou Mei and Bai Mu Dan. It is a really affordable way to treat yourself to a superb aged White since it is almost half the price of a Jade Star per gram of tea. The Tea Drunk effect for us is happy and warming without getting rushy - like kicking back and forgetting your cares on a summer vacation.
