A powerhouse blend of two famous mountains to make an invigorating and cocktail-like brew with a rising and excitable tea-drunk energy. Welcome to the Day Drinking Diva!
Everything starts with taste of course. We wanted to make a Sheng PuErh which was bright, mineral and refreshing but still had enough of those deeper undertones to soften, smooth and add intrigue to the experience. There are many high-quality young Sheng's that can give you a mouthful of minerality but we wanted more and sometimes a blend is the way to go.
This is a blend of old tree moving to Gushu tea leaves (150-200 years old estimated) picked in April 2021 from two of our most favourite forests. The first is the village area of He Kai - rightly renowned for producing deeply mineral and potent teas that have a rich body and (to my taste at least) a creamy and treacle taste. The second tea comes from the lush forests of Nan Nuo which I always associate with having a wild, fruity and funky character.
The blend is a unique journey moving from the wet rocks and brown-bread ice cream depths up into the canopy with bright and creamy tropical fruits like custard apples. The blend also creates a juniper berry spice through the combination of woodsy and citrusy aromatics of the two forests. This little spice and pepperiness combined with the puckering and refreshing mouth feel, complete the cocktail experience - imagine a spicy Gin and Tonic with a custard apple garnish!
While the blend was created for taste - we are very happy to report that the body sensation on this one is a wild-ride and suits that wrapper image perfectly. This is a rising effervescent energy with light-headed and raucous tea-lifted highs. Day Drinking Diva is not one for a relaxing sensation but the perfect tea to break out for social situations or for those potent solo sessions with a little secretive grin - you are just having a little tea right? Enjoy my friends.
