Whenever I visit a touristy teahouse in China the sales assistants will invariably go through the standard health claims about tea - Green tea is high in antioxidants, PuErh is good for weight loss and so on. Whilst there is absolutely no question that tea drinking is one of the healthiest indulgences on the planet, I always felt that this was intentionally simplistic bite size marketing to generate a quick sale instead of being carefully considered advice.
Another common bit of marketing is that White tea is good for skincare. This is used to push White tea to women and I dislike the stereotyping that women can't handle richer teas and men do not appreciate the elegance of a White.
But having done my own research I found that White tea has been shown to have powerful anti-collegenase and anti-elastase function. This means that White tea certainly has an anti-ageing affect and when combined with Da Zao and Lemongrass (both skin cleansing herbs) it makes for an even more potent skin tonifying drink.
About our Signature Blends
We love to celebrate the flavour of the pure leaf and avoid any blends that do not keep tea as the star of the show. We have an intense dislike for tea shops selling all sorts of crazy mixes which are sold for their overpowering artificial aromas and seem to be created by marketeers rather than for actual flavour or function.
In the creation of our small range of blends we tried many mixes and threw away over 90%. The ones that made it through the auditions did so because the combination of flavours complement each other and the resulting brew has a potent effect and experience. They are all natural with no artificial flavourings.
