A very light roast on this deluxe Jin Xuan makes this a very 'blond' creamy tea full of childhood notes of caramel popcorn, cereal milk and custards!
This is a NATURAL Jin Xuan Milk Oolong (no artificial flavours or silly stories of being steamed over milk). The picking and processing is supreme and all about allowing that fresh yet milky and buttery character of a Jin Xuan cultivar shine without any toastiness. If you fancy a medium or darker roasted Jin Xuan then check out Alishan Cream and Midnight Sun.
Authentic Milk Oolong (sometimes called Milky Oolong) is made from the Jin Xuan variety (Golden Lily) which was cultivated by the Taiwan Tea Research Extension Station (TRES) and is sometimes called TRES #12. It naturally contains various different Lactones which are thought to contribute to a milky taste and creamier mouthfeel.
You may hear stories of tea being steamed or watered with milk - these are all untrue and often used by producers and sellers to explain the potent smell of artificially flavoured tea. I would always recommend trying the original cultivar, grown in excellent terroirs and produced to bring out the natural depth of the leaf, and avoid the scented stuff.
