Probably my favourite tea to come from Yiwu in years. Thick and sweet with sticky dried fruits and ripe papaya. Yes it is pricey but wow this is a must for anyone who loves honeyed and smooth-sipping luxury tea.
We have been sourcing tea from the famous Gao Shan village in Yiwu for a number of years. The producers are a family with an ancient tea forest of 200 year-old (estimated) trees. Check out our video finding these producers.
The first tea that we sourced from them was called Nectar Raider and it has become a bit of a legendary tea. Every year the tea is different and, while this is again a totally unique brew, Jelly Juice Vampire is the closest tea to that original. It is sweet with papaya and honey-soaked prunes with a caramel and vanilla decadence and light stoney minerality. The aftertaste will last for hours.
Gao Shan village has become one of the most sought after origins for raw PuErh in the whole of Yiwu and the prices rise steadily each year. Of course, we will only buy tea if we feel that the experience lives up to the hype and this one is a top-notch PuErh.
A future classic which will be talked about in hallowed tones many years after it has all gone - the batch is only 280 cakes so act quickly if you want the pinnacle of Yiwu.
We have an affordable Huangpian version for those wanting to taste this village at a lower price tag or fancies having both versions in their collection.
