An absolute bargain of a tea due to a mistake by our agents. Creamy, floral, raisins, caramel and woodsy. Grab pouches as a luxury daily drinker.
OK so this tea gave us a lot of headaches!
We had originally purchased a Yunnan Da Xue Shan White back in 2022 but when it arrived, it tasted different - not as fruity as the sample.
It turned out that our agents had mislabelled the samplers, and we had received 50kg of the wrong batch of tea!
While I enjoyed the tea in 2022, it didn't meet the pinnacle standards that we set for Mei Leaf, and so I aged it carefully for three years in the hope that it would transform and enhance the sugared, fruity and fermented notes.
In 2025, I tasted Snow Mountain White after its three years of slumber and, well, I was frustrated that the tea did not hit the high echelons that we demand for our collection.
On paper, this tea is a winner.
Made from 80-100 year old trees growing in the spectacular 2000m terroirs of Da Hu Sai village in Da Xue Shan - this place produces some of the best Sheng PuErh around Lincang.
In the Gaiwan the tea is creamy and floral with the fermented funk of Kombucha (from London ageing).
The taste is yummy, with a rich autumnal forest woodsy vibe combined with sweet raisins, burnt sugar and custards.
The finish is physical (as you would expect from PuErh country) but still transformative, gentle and juicy with a fresh minerality.
Body sensation is airy and lifting with a lovely feel-good high.
BUT, there is no getting away with it. This tea, while being a top-quality brew, did not have that something extra that I look for in my tea.
So, we are basically selling Snow Mountain White for a silly price to just cover some of the costs.
This is an amazing opportunity for you to stock up on a luxury old tree tea at the price of supermarket brews. Honestly, this tea should be about 4x the price.
Not many people can say that their daily drinker is an old tree Da Xue Shan White aged for 3 years!
Let our mistakes be your good fortune (and maybe your friends too).
