We thought that we had escaped the Trump tariffs but he has a habit of surprising everyone!
The USA imposes a 10% tariff on goods from the UK but previously this was only charged if the value of the order was over $800.
This threshold value is called the 'de minimis', and it was due to be scrapped (meaning that even small orders would be subject to tariffs) in a couple of years.
But Mr President decided at the end of July 2025 to bring that date forward to 29th August 2025. That gave us less than a month to radically change everything!
But we did it, and here's what it means for you.
1. All orders to the USA will be sent as DDP (Delivered Duties Paid). This means that we supply all of the relevant information for US customs and the duties have already been covered - YOU WILL NOT HAVE TO PAY ANYTHING EXTRA IN THE USA TO RECEIVE YOUR GOODIES.
2. We will charge you the 10% tariffs plus DDP handling fees at our Mei Leaf checkout, which we then pay to cover the tariffs and charges.
3. BUT we will cover half of these tariffs by giving all USA clients an automatic 5% discount on your order (even after any existing discounts).
Let's take a practical example:
- Your order is $200 before any shipping and tariffs
- We give you 5% discount so that brings it to $190
- We calculate your tariff on this $190 which would be $19 plus handling fees
- You will pay around $210 including all tariffs and handling fees
- We send this off using the special DDP service with all paperwork FOR FREE (if order qualifies for free shipping)
- You receive your goodies without having to deal with customs or paying any extra fees
This means that you are practically paying an extra 5% for your tea and wares because of this USA legislation change.
Without our USA clients, there is no way that we could stay afloat, and I hope that you keep supporting us and drinking the finest teas out there.

PS We begin shipping all DDP orders on the 28th August 2025. All DDP orders received between 22nd August and 27th August must be held until this shipping date to allow the postal services and US customs to switch to the new rules (otherwise there is a risk that they will be returned to us).
