Dehua white porcelain is world famous and the potters are equally renowned for their skill in design and production.
This 110ml Gaiwan has the perfect shape for easy tea-slinging.
Classically Dehua porcelain has a thicker profile than the wares from Jingdezhen, making them better at retaining heat and easier to use (withough getting too hot for your fingers).
The profile of ths Gaiwan is excellent and the lid fits snugly within the saucer when you are not brewing (always a bonus for me).
We are calling this a Sahara Gaiwan because the colours are a blend of layers of sandy tan tones although it also reminds us of the rings of Saturn.
The texture varies with a matt glazed lid, a smooth, glossy body and a mixed glaze saucer. This gives the Gaiwan tactile interest in the hands and to the eye.
Every Gaiwan is handmade and will be slightly different so please celebrate the individuality of your Gaiwan if you pick one up.
