Yiwu teas of this calibre will always be on the more expensive side of PuErh. This is fuelled by demand because so many people love the soft and supple nature of Yiwu teas paired with a richness and strength that builds with every sip.
It is this gentle intensity which personifies the character of a great Yiwu and when we tasted this year's batch from our friends we had to splurge the money and grab ourselves a few hundred cakes.
Aroma Composer is a refuge of aromatic joy. Apricots and lilies combine sublimely with sweet caramels and honey which play perfectly against the refreshing notes of forest streams and the bright creaminess of green banana.
In the background, there is sandalwood and sweet spices which give us a glimpse of this tea's ageing potential to add even more depth to an already rich tea.
The aftertaste is long and supple with apricot and maple sweetness.
Aroma Composer envelops you in a satin hug of aromatics - warm, smooth and comforting yet lively and exciting.
It is one of those teas that may be hard to pull the trigger on but once it is nestled in your collection you will be so happy it is there.
We have an affordable Huangpian version for those wanting to taste this village at a lower price tag or fancies having both versions in their collection.
