Exquisite complex green tea with cooked sweet peas, fresh morning, moist cut grass, creaminess, full body, thick mouth, no bitterness

Immaculate Huangshan Maofeng made from 35 year old heirloom Qunti variety bushes for the richest depth of flavour and lasting sweetness. A pinnacle batch of a famous tea - this is what Huangshan Maofeng should be all about - nougat sweet warmth and a juicy finish.

Despite being one of China's most famous Green teas, we have not purchased Huangshan Maofeng for many years. The reason? This is a tea type which generally looks sublime but disappoints in the experience. These types of  Green teas need to have a rare combination of lightness, purity and delicacy with depth, complexity and character. Too often with Huangshan Maofeng, the experience somehow feels empty.

Our Fur Peak is a perfect example of this much sought after combination of delicacy and character. It tastes elegant and pure yet brings a thick, brothy body, complex aromatics and a warm yet refreshing character.

This tea was picked on 20th April 2023 which is the prime time for Huangshan Maofeng. Beware of any Huangshan Maofeng picked much earlier as the taste will often be underdeveloped or the tea will be made from less desirable cultivars and flatlands.

The leaves are from around 35-year-old Heirloom variety tea bushes. They have been processed by hand, pan-fired over woks before baking in drawers over charcoal ash. The result is a light but deep, warming, savoury aroma with a fresh juicy finish.

This tea is perfect for Grandpa style brewing.
