Soft, creamy, rounded and smooth Kabusecha from Kagoshima. Starchy, creamy, umami and floral. The ultimate luxury.
Okumidori is an excellent and rightly famed variety with low bitterness, refined umami and creamy florals.
When shade grown, this cultivar produces magical teas with luxurious body and elegance (it can also make excellent Matcha).
This Okumidori Kabuse has been 14 days shade grown (by covering the bushes) in Kagoshima - one of our favourite prefectures for tea bringing a trademark rounded quality to its tea.
So you have an area renowned for smooth, umami rounded teas; a cultivar renowned for softness and elegance and a shade grown technique to enhance body, reduce bitters and amp-up the umami.
The combination of these three inputs makes a tea which is just ultra-luxury.
The mouthfeel is thick, soft and round (albeit with the trademark Kagoshima volcanic minerality).
The aroma and taste is divine.
Sweet and creamy cake frosting and coconut custards combine with a rich umami which fills the mouth and is perked up by a hint of aloe vera freshness
The finish offers a hint of dryness which softens to a candied rose petal aftertaste.
A beautiful Kabusecha to celebrate process, cultivar and terroir.
