Exquisite batch of Huangshan Maofeng made from heirloom bushes growing aroung the famous Guangming area of the Yellow Mountain. A top-shelf tea with richness and intensity despite its light elegance.
Drinking this batch of tea evokes the feeling of being high up in the Yellow mountains surrounded by rocks, herbs and meadow flowers - there is petrichor in the air and you can smell that rocky stream blending with light peppery-sweet blossoms and aromatic herbs.
There you are sitting, taking in this gentle yet rich waft of high-elevation nature and then you are served some butter biscuits and spongecake soaked in a syrup and slathered with airy, whipped cream.
The tea is a delicate dance of flavours - sweet and syrupy waltz with savoury and brothy while creams and milks foxtrot with minerals and spice. It is entrancing.
What makes this tea so Supreme?
Fur Peak (Huangshan Maofeng) is a very famous Chinese Green with huge variations in price and quality but, in general, tends to be one of the more expensive names out there. The teas are generally light and pure tasting but are often let down by being a bit weak and empty (while still commanding high prices).
There is a magic that happens with only the rariefied batches of tea but you have to pay attention to be bewitched by their charms. This is because their allure comes form the richness, complexity and depth which comes out of minimal elegance and a delicacy which needs to be savoured with focus.
The leaves look a little 'wilder' than your average expensive Maofeng but that should just add to your love of the tea - old tree heirloom varieites care little for looks and express their authentic flavour by being wild and untamed bushes.
Fur Peak Supreme has been processed by hand, pan-fired over woks before very lightly baking in drawers over charcoal ash.
Fur Peak Supreme is the definition of this quality of tea - it is thick and abundant in texture and flavour and has the longest, cooling sweet finish and yet it is airy light with understated grace and elegance.
This tea is perfect for Grandpa style brewing.
